I am a 60 something professional man having lived a rich and sometimes rewarding life. My experiences have given me great perspective on people, especially on how people interact with each other in work and social environments. Having had a free flowing life of varying careers, I have worked in many fields at many levels from laborer to psychologist, to department manger, to chief software architect, to managing partner of several businesses.
But the one overarching theme is I like people. I like getting to know them and finding out what make them who they are. I believe in the school of management that believes in as much as possible get to really know the people around you.
I believe it is important to discuss current events from the point of view on how it affects people in their every day lives. So what of what is happening today impacts us in a negative fashion. There are so many groups trying to influence politics, religion, freedom of expression, and the work place environment.
Most of my initial thoughts will revolve around the workplace. Most people spend a large portion of their lives at work. There is no dispute that it controls a large part. Fear of job loss. fear of failing, fear of the unknown, all influence all other portions of our lives. I am not trying to paint a totally negative picture. It is just that even when we are in the best situation at work, all it takes is one event to cause upheaval far beyond work. Most employers I have worked for are very happy to extoll for virtues of their employees when times are good, but they are also quick to cut people loose when times are bad with little assistance or thought for the impact of their actions.
